Our keypad that opens our garage was getting old and has always had problems. Sometimes it would open the garage if you put the wrong code in and the buttons were getting worn. So we decided to get a new one, but we wanted something different. We have had several keypad openers in the past that have all had similar problems. We wanted to try something different, something new, something revolutionary, something that would change the way we open our garage doors forever!

We found the Smart Touch at Lowes and decided to give it a try. The package of our newest garage door opener boasted that it used pre-programed fingerprints to open the door and that it would work even if your fingers are dirty or wet. It sounded great, you don’t have to remember another combination and you don’t have to worry about someone hacking your combination. When we got it home we eailsy scanned our fingerprints in it and mounted by the garage. We did a few test scans and it was working great.

A couple of days later I was mowing the lawn and got my hands dirty. I had to go into the garage to grab the weed eater and it opened the first try, no problem. It worked and it was fast. I didn’t have to punch a combination in. Just lift the cover and scan, done. So far so good.

The next day I was walking from a friend’s house and it started pouring rain. I ran up to my garage door to scan my finger and nothing happened. While I was standing in the rain getting soaked I tried it again, nothing. I tried to dry my finger off on my wet clothes and still nothing. I ended up ringing my front door bell to get in that day :(

Well the smart touch isn’t perfect, but it certainly is better than our previous garage keypads. We have had it for a while now and haven’t had any problems with it (other than wet finger opening). One of the best things about it is that it can’t be decoded and I don’t have to worry about some kid playing with it and opening my garage, which has happened. Overall its great and if I had to get another one for any reason I would get another fingerprint scanning model.
