5 Reasons to Buy and 5 Reasons Not To Buy Space Bags – Review
By: Blake
Space bags are a good idea, but my experience with them makes me think that they are a work in progress. I bought a large space bag to store some things in the attic. I loaded it up with old stuff that needed to be stored and sucked the air out of it. My problem came when I moved it in to my attic. I carefully lugged it up up the attic stairs and found a place for it. When I was about to leave it there indefinitely I heard a low hissing sound. I examined the bag and noticed that it was filling back up with air. It seems that I bought a defective bag.
Five reasons to get space bags.
- They are very useful when storing things. They keep clothes clean and doesn’t allow them to get that musty smell after being in storage for a while.
- Compressing clothing saves space and makes organizing easy. Packing a suit case has never been so easy.
- Space bags preserve delicate items. The items in the bag are out of the elements. Moisture in the air can’t get to your bagged items.
- They are cheap and worth the money if they work properly.
- Easy to use.
Five reasons not to get space bags.
- They are too fragile. The plastic bag it too easy to tear or puncture and can become brittle over time.
- Space bags are gauranteed to wrinkle your clothes. Hope you like ironing.
- It is a pain to close the giant zip lock bag.
- Many are just defective and have a slow leak.
- Space bags can be expensive if you keep buying faulty ones.
Overall, if you can find some that work properly then you will be satisfied. Unfortunately finding a one that does work is the hard part. Many online reviews have similar problems as I have had, mainly a slow leak. From what I have experienced it seems that space bags are still in the developing stages and are still working out the kinks. When they have come up with a reliable product I will be willing to give space bags another try.

Interesting Blog, Blake. I agree with a lot of what you say, except for the cost of buying faulty bags. You can call 1.800.469.9044 and get replacement bags for those that are defective. I also want you to know that the quality of the product has improved dramatically in the past six months. Certainly there is a limit to what a plastic bag will endure as far as toughness, but if as you say, care is taken to avoid puncturing or scraping the bags, they will work for a long time. Realize that a really really tough bag could be made, but you would not want to pay for it. Perhaps a better solution for your attic storage would be a compressible tote which has an outer shell AND locking straps, just in case it fails.

I too, have had the same problem with the air seeping out of them. I did exchange them three times at wal-mart & all three times the air has come out of them!
I will not buy anymore until they improve them!
