Having your own website is a dream of many people and starting a website or blog can be relatively easy. Unfortunately coming up in Google search results can be much more difficult. Search engines have to find your site before it will be indexed. Once it is indexed, then there is a possibility that your site will come up in a search if your content is relevant to the search terms entered into the search engine.

Search engines like Google and Yahoo have to be very smart to stay ahead of dishonest SEO (Search Engine Optimization) companies. You see, it is the SEO experts job to get websites optimized so they will come up higher in search queries. And there is a fine line between optimizing and cheating to get the desired results. The search engine’s job is to deliver the most relevant website results for their users and if they are fooled into delivering results that are not desired, they will lose popularity. If you think about it, Google and the other search engines are like lie detectors. They even have highly secret algorithms built into their software to help cull out the liars and cheats!

Content is King when it comes to the Internet. Lots of it, quality content and your content. Simply put “words are what search engines see.” If you don’t have enough of them, you won’t have a chance. Have too few relevant keywords or try to stuff too many of your preferred keywords in and you will fail. Try to copy someone else’s content and you will be penalized. Google has stated for a long time now, when asked “how can I get my website to rank higher in the results?”  “Create good original content with relevant keywords.”

Avoid unrealistic SEO companies and/or software that claim to be able to get top ten results in search engines for your site. If it sounds too good… well you know the rest. Don’t try to cheat. Play by the rules and you will get the results you desire. And by getting good search engine results the right way, you won’t have to stress about being caught and penalized. If you have little or no original content for your website, then reconsider having one to begin with! Scraper software that gathers text from throughout the Internet and compiles it together is a total waste of bandwidth. Unscrupulous companies are selling this garbage to people that have no idea what they are doing. Even if they were able to get people to visit their site, it wouldn’t be long before their site was excluded from search engine results. The Internet wouldn’t be very useful if the search engines allowed this to go on.
