Racquetball lovers unite! I recently discovered a local place to relieve my urge to play racquetball. Its satisfying to see a gym that has an avid understanding of such urges and provides plenty of relief for those who suffer from them. The gym in mind is LA Fitness and is particularly convenient for me because it is only fifteen minutes from my house. LA Fitness provides five racquetball courts, plentiful league nights and occasionally invites special guests for the league members.

Always having a court to play on is an amazing plus for a racquetball player when choosing a gym to attend. Since LA Fitness has five racquetball courts you can go to the gym at any time you want, that isn’t horribly packed, and there will be a court waiting for you to occupy it. Unfortunately though no matter how many courts a gym has it is possible for all of them to be in use. One of these occasions is “old guy night.” This is the term that I have coined which simply means, the night that every old person within a one mile radius of the gym decides to hop on their mopeds and go play racquetball at LA Fitness. I only call it old guy night because some of the guys look older, but more power to them. I hope I can still play racquetball when I’m ninety years old. Anyway there is a solution that solves the old guy problem. Reservations, they can be made two days prior to the court date and one person can reserve for one hour per night. If you go with a buddy you can have him reserve the hour right after yours, this way you have two consecutive hours of game play.

The league nights at LA Fitness rock! They give you plenty of opportunities to make new friends and to test your mad skills against a variety of people. Tournaments are great because they give you the chance to play people who are better than you; this gives you the opportunity to learn new tricks and techniques from them which will help improve your game play. One of the coolest things about the league night is when special guests are invited to the gym. The people who run the league invite a pro racquetball player to come in and play with the league members. But this wasn’t just any pro racquetball player that came to my gym, it was Shane Vanderson! In case you aren’t sure who that is I will enlighten you, he is ranked fifth in the world at the sport of racquetball! Now I know that the only reason he came was because he is required by his sponsor to make appearances to promote the head brand racquets and specifically his racquet the 175 gram one from the amp series, but I felt special any way. He played everyone in the league in singles games to seven and didn’t break a sweat. I ended up getting two points on him before he beat me. Loosing to Shane Vanderson was one of the coolest moments of my racquetball career to date.

Well there are just a few things for a racquetball enthusiast to keep in mind when choosing a gym to attend. Number one, pick LA Fitness; this place is awesome, it provides a great atmosphere and plenty of racquetball opportunities. Number two, avoid old guy night or beat them to the court by making a reservation. But there is always the possibility of joining them, you would probably learn a few things and you may be one eventually and there is nothing wrong with that. And number three, you might get to play Shane Vanderson if you pick LA Fitness, or at least someone really awesome that will be forced to be there by their sponsor, so your chances are pretty good at meeting a pro.
